Love for me is always a wonder. Pedro loves Soledad and that is evident towards the end of the story, there is no question about that. Pedro may have an INFP type of personality which manifestsin putting sentimental values on almost everything especially if it comes from a person so dear to you. I can relate to that, if I would be in Pedro's shoes I would also keep those belongings but that would not make my love for Soledad any lesser. Some may say that they should have talked about that and come to clear things between them but you cannot take away a thought that may hunt her even with things are already clear.

Yes, Pedro loves Soledad. The fact that he remained calm and quiet about the burning of the clothes shows that he doesn't want to start a fight and he thinks that she only did it out of his love for him. Although of course there might be a resentment in Pedro's part since he still values the clothes. Pedro keeping his dead wife's clothes shows how filipino's can be very sentimental. That we are having difficulty on throwing away things that remind us of someone or good memories, even though the person is not physically with us anymore, we still value the things that they left behind because those things remind us of our memories with them.

“Yes, Pedro does love Soledad, however,… I believe, Pedro loves Soledad, but the undeniable pain of losing someone does not just go away overnight. Keeping a chest of his deceased wife does not mean he has no regard for Soledad's feelings nor he is stuck in the past. Often, when we fall in love with someone, we do not really forget them nor unlove them. They will always have a piece of us, but the love will forever remain. We will probably meet someone along the way who we could love again, but a different kind of beautiful, magical love. Sometimes, holding on to a few belongings from the past does not mean we miss how things used to be.…

“A big yes! Pedro loves Soledad. It was visible when he went to town late at night to call a doctor because his wife doesn't feel well. Also, it was more evident when Pedro is still willing to forgive her in the end if she repents. He might've kept some of his former wife's belongings because she was once significant to him, but that does not mean that he still loves her or he loves her more than Soledad. Pedro only tends to be sentimental. It wasn't because he cannot move on— it's because Pedro respected his late wife.”

Yes, he loves Soledad. Even though Pedro is keen on hiding the things his first wife owned, I still believe that Pedro truly loves Soledad. We all know the struggle of losing someone in our lives, and we try to cope with it in various ways we know possible. Probably, that action of Pedro might be his way to slowly move on and forget the past. Or maybe, the reason behind it is because his first wife's belongings somehow remind him of the mistakes he made to her so Pedro can refrain from repeating it again. It may be hard to understand, but we should remember that once he shared his life with another woman and the moments they had…
